The Marked

The Marked

A Poem by Arctic Fox
"

How you would describe the Punk population or Ravers

"

We are the unwanted and used.

We are the hated and abused.

We are the beaten and broken.

We are the marked and labeled.

We walk by night under a thousand suns.

We live by a code binding us tighter blood.

We beat a unified pulse through our music.

We speak a universal language through our dance.

We exist along side you in the shadows.

We exist outside of your laws.

You deny us though you made us.

Can you see the freedom that you have given us?

When you see us walk away.

Do not let your eyes linger on ours.

Secretly you want to join us.

Deep down you want to be trapped.

I'm a bit confused by this one. The line "We walk by night under a thousand suns" aside, the poem seems to be a misfit manifesto celebrating the fact that you and your ilk "exist outside of your laws" and yet you tell the reader "Secretly you want to join us. Deep down you want to be trapped." Are you suggesting to the reader that, even though you exercise "the freedom that you have given us" that somehow, to be of "The Marked" is to be trapped?
This poem comes straight from my scene (or what used to be my scene) and I definitely dig the unified defiance of it. I think just a little revision for clarity's sake would destine this piece for immortality in tattoo ink.

Clarification: "Secretly you want to join us." - Is to invoke the inner feeling of the reader, suggesting that it is they who wishes to live without law and in freedom. If you read in my other works you also see that this kind of freedom comes at a price.

When I say you, I mean those who marked the ones I call we. LOL You indicates normal society. A thousands suns is a metaphor for street lights and stars
