The Pyramid of Needs

The Pyramid of Needs

A Poem by Aries1984
"

Just wrote about something soul searching

"
Have you ever been asked
What you want out of life?
It's not so much of a rhetorical question
But a destiny toward which we all try to strive.
I have been asked this question before
And I don't have a simply response
I climb this pyramid like the rest
Until, on me, it dons.
That above all else I desire freedom
Not the kind that's physical
Because I'm not incarcerated, sitting in jail
But I desire freedom for the soul, one that's spiritual.
At times I feel like I'm stuck in this cocoon
Which we call our body
Have to conform to evolution's and society's rules
It's hard to embody.
Hard to grasp just what it means
To "know thyself"
When I live in a world full of other people
Who tell me to "be yourself".
Although we're created to be of service to each other
I don't think that we ever stop searching
Just what we want out of life
Yet I'm blindly serving.
In one way or another
Ia this my ultimate journey to self-actualization?
The highest stage to reach
To get to some sort of realization.
Just for what reason
Have I been put on this earth?
Because I seemed to have realized
That I've been climbing this pyramid from birth.
