Prey

Here's my first horror poem

As night descends my heart picks up speed

He’s on his way, he can hear every beat

                       

I could try to run and hide

I could try to barricade myself inside

 

But it would be a fruitless pursuit

He’s there, on the edge of the field, hidden in the gloom

 

I look out my window into the night

Only to look straight into his pitiless crimson eyes

 

My body tells me to turn and run

But he’s fast, so fast, a blur in the dark

 

I blink and he’s there, a mad joy lighting his eyes

As he reaches out and pulls me to his never-ending night

 

He reaches out his hand and trails it down my neck

And I can’t help but shudder at the cold promise of death

 

He leans in close and I close my eyes

As he whispers softly into the night

 

“I’m here at your request my dear.

The time to join me in death is near”

 

Yes it was I who summoned the demon of the night

To come and save me from my earthly plight

 

For once he was my lover, before death took him in its grasp

Leaving me nothing in this world, my mind became as fragile as glass

 

Now he shall take me into his cold dark world

Where we shall be together forever more                     

 

Making the whole world our prey, there is no escape

Even death will not come near; we are the only thing to fear
