From Boyhood to Manhood

From Boyhood to Manhood

A Poem by Arsenic
"

My friend Jace told me this story that was true of him. I decided to, with his permission, put the poignant tale into poetry. It was a stroy that touched my heart and maybe it will touch yours two.

"

The man stood in the same spot

The place where he stood only moths ago

No more than a boy

Experiencing freedom for the first time

That boy had walked in with ripped jeans on his legs

A black hoodie and guitar on his back

His hear spiked black on red his ear pierced

His attitude coming off in waves, literally palpable

He walked into the streets where once the gladiators

Marched to thier death

Standing under the sun playing his guitar

Kicking the soccerball under the stars

The where he met her

On the field, playing, a truly great player

No one could stop her

As beautiful and stunning as she was terrible and ruthless

When the game was over he challenged her

She was faster, but he knew more

He won, barely

It was a match made in heaven

She was rich and Rome at her fingertips

He was a foreigner who had little

It didn't matter for soon they were the envy of Rome

However it wouldn't last

Mother nature proved her worth

They drank and smoke and partied hard

Until the day they partied too hard

On that day fate was laid, dealing its final blow

She held the test in shaking hands

Positive

Her tears flowed thick and heavy

He was ecstatic he lover her so much

She didn't want it

She aborted the child allowing its end to come

He still loved her but she blamed him

They camed to a tragic end

A tear rolled down the man's cheek

He walked on the plane that would carry him back

Back across the ocean to his home

He came a boy, he left a man

His innocence forever taken

Bold Ideas, told vibrantly and passionately. The grammar needs a little finetuning in places (for example it should be 'he was ecstatic he loved her so much' instead of 'lover her so much'. But the poem was emotionally intense, and gripping at the end. And the story is so true for so many of us - a gripping time in our lives, different for each, in which the growing pains of letting go of childhood and facing the real world take hold of us. The character in this poem, perhaps, had a real awakening to the savagery of human nature. Very good effort. I liked it.

Awesome. It really is a touching story. It must have been really hard for your friend during the time. Great read enjoyed it a lot.
