Ai! the voices of singing waves

like endless lullaby of the foams that are dancing there!

Standing on the shores of long forgotten lake.

On the last shores of Western Land

where lives many wonders of the Elder Days

and the sweet voices of the Firstborn still echo there.

Ai! My heart’s desire

to seek that timeless

Straight Road of Elves*

that leads to Elvenhome

far beyond the horizon.

 

And this longing

that is crying out from

the bottoms of my soul

I set free now!

 

But I did not find anything

except that I returned

to there where I started.

 

Ai! I sing, I sing a song

for Eärendil  The Mariner

the Brightest of Stars

AI! I sing, I sing a song

of Eärendil The Blessed

Star of High Hope.

 

Aiya Eärendil Elenion Ancalima!

 

Ai! Father of All beyond time

Eru Ilúvatar hear the prayer

of the Afterborn!

Ai! Eru Ilúvatar hear the prayer

of the Mortal one!

 

Alas! No more I shall

have peace until

the End of Days.

 

Ai! My heart’s desire

to seek that timeless

Straight Road of Elves

that leads to Elvenhome

far beyond the horizon.

But my voyage

(to seek Valinor)

 it was in vain.

And this longing

that is crying out from

the bottoms of my soul

I set free now!

Standing on the shores

of long forgotten lake that leads to the Sea.

Again I set sail

and I leave behind the shores of Middle-earth.

* ‘Straight Road of Elves’
The Straight Road, so called because it followed the old path across Belegaer from before the Downfall of Númenor when the Flat World was made Round, was only kept open to Elves, who were allowed to sail to it on their ships by a special grace of the Valar.
