Where is now, Nimrodel?

  Where is now, Nimrodel?

A long, long ago by the waterfalls of Lothlórien

lived fair elven maid,  beloved of Amroth,

and she sang under the stars of Elbereth

but where is now,  Nimrodel?

 

She lived alone and she laughed with the river,

her feet were light and she longed for Eldamar

Ai! Can you hear the voice that wind carries

hither from the Western shores?

 

But where is now, Nimrodel?

 

Amroth, the Elven-king, he wanted her to be his wife,

just like trying to tame the west wind, but Nimrodel  told him,

‘Take me to safety, take me to the shores of Eldamar

and there, I promise to wed thee!’

 

Amroth said; ‘Travel with me to the port city of Belfalas and

I promise, my love, together we set sail

to the Undying Lands!’

 

Over the White Mountains they travelled, but they were

separated from each other and when Amroth arrived

there, he could not find her.

 

‘Where is now, Nimrodel?‘

 

The ship waited many days, but she never came.

 

When the storm hit them and threw the ship

out of the harbor, Amroth cursed the wind,

cursed the storm that took him far away

from Nimrodel!

 

‘I am not leaving you!’ Amroth cried and

leaned overboard, hoping to see Nimrodel,

her golden hair, the fair maiden of Lothlórien!

 

After that, no one has heard of them, no word came

to the Western shores nor to the Lothlórien.

 

The river carries the voice of broken heart,

crying in the flowing water;

‘Where is now, Nimrodel?’
