Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones

A Poem by adam26
"

This can be about a significant other, or a friend. Everyone loses touch with people, but the pain is in looking back and realizing the memories made don't hold the same if the other person had doubts

"

Stepping Stones

I step on ground

You step on me

I watch your back

But then I can’t see

You’re walking away

And I ask Where

I run to catch up

It doesn’t seem fair

Times don’t change

But people do

Yet I always imagined

Me and You

I guess I got lost

And you found your way

I’m so happy for you

But you’ve nothing to say

The night rushes in

And reality hits

I’m alone once again

But this time it feels new

I’ve been here before

Walked down this path

Where all around me

Are people who laugh

Cards close to the chest

They do it for fame

All the attention

They won’t ever know each other’s name

I once had a dream

About You and Me

With nothing to hold us

The things we could see

I could be someone

You could be free

But the music slows down

And the curtain falls

The truth is this

We had a good run

Many adventures

And lots of fun

I’m sure it was gradual

How long I don’t know

My only regret

Was assuming the best
