The Heart of the Matter

The Heart of the Matter

A Poem by Ashira Macy

I have never been one to wound for kicks,

Slit throats for fun,

Rip still-beating hearts out of chests -

Just for s***s and giggles.

No…

I paint pretty pictures

With candy coated deceit

And shoot myself in the foot

So you can live your prideful life in peace.

I’ll take the bullets

Through my permeable flesh,

I’ll wear that mask with the sorrowful frown.

But you look away

And the guise shatters into truth.

At the heart of the matter

All that remains

Is that it wasn’t me…

It was all you.

Ah yes, it seems that many of us are quick to say "I'm sorry", "it's my fault" instead of the other person saying it first to us. I wonder why is that? that at times even when we are not the ones who are at fault still say sorry.why do we feel the need to be the ones to take on the role of being the bigger person.hmm.. thanks for writing this poem and sharing it:)

Thanks so much Joshua, that is very encouraging. =D
How often do we as humans willingly suffer the abuse of others, be it mental, emotional, or physical in order to simply keep the peace? I know I do it every day, and have done it since I was a child. Even now, I know I should stop, and stand up. To let the mask fall, but breaking bad habits are sometimes harder than pulling teeth.

Well written and well received. Thank you for the share, dear!

Yep, and get angry but have no outlet because of not wanting to cause issues or others.
Ah, the masks we all wear! Really like the way you expressed this, a subject all can relate to. A universal theme, expressed in your own beautiful unique way. Kudos to you!
