The Earth We Live On

The Earth We Live On

A Poem by Xanthous Crow

How you sparkle, ball of blue
Despite what they do to you
Mixing acid with your rain
Only adding to your pain

Toxins turning the ocean black
As the soil dies and cracks
Let's set fire to the trees
And bring the fauna to its knees

Mountains drown under piles of refuse
How long can she tolerate this abuse?
When smog and smoke choke the skies
Beyond the veil the ozone dies

They will have you think it's right
The masked thieves that come in the night
Blindsiding you all the while
Seducing you with their corporate wiles

How much longer will this go on?
Destroying the world with our spawn
How many more lives must go extinct?
Before they see that it's all interlinked?

Maybe I am mad as a loon
Or a secret corporate goon
But hear me, before it is gone
This beautiful earth that we live on
