Till S / For S

A Poem by Atosa

The english translation:
Our voices echo in the hallway
Everyone else have already gone home
But we sit here with an unspoken fear
That if we take one step too far
We won't ever find our way back home
You sit next to me
Slowly nodding
But I know that you're not really here
I keep on talking cause silence is scary
You smile and distantly nod again
Your thoughts are with that woman
She with the heart of ice
It's her voice which echoes in the hallway
The crowded hallway of your mind
I keep on talking
You keep on nodding
Both of us scared of the world outside
We both know that we prefer the darkness
In the badly lit tunnels of our minds.
Hennes ord ekar i dina tankars korridorer

Author's Note

Atosa
I originally wrote this poem in Swedish, so the English version is a translation. I personally think the original flows more naturally and the words are more accurate...I had to change a lot of the sentences in order to make it work in English so it's not exactly the same.

I can only imagine the intricate details of the original Swedish, but if it is anything like the English translation, I am extremely impressed. This piece made my heart feel hollow - you convey the need to hold on to what is known, what is safe, when one feels they are not yet ready to face the outside world in all of its terrifying newness perfectly.
