Who We've Become

Who We've Become

A Poem by Reanna Weekley

In the dreaming that I do
Haunted all are dreams of you
How goodbye could not be enough
To bring you back to fix our cuffs
To tie our shoes when we could not
To bring us tea when days were hot
To kiss us night before we sleep
To hold us close when we would weep
To see us off to school today
To instill in us all your ways
Your smell, your touch, your motherly gaze
Oh how we'd love to hear you say
How proud and how much you adore
How we have become so much more
Than you could ever hope or dream
It's not as tragic as it seems
Inside ourselves we've made to find
How to pay tribute in our minds
To you who could not be with us
To see the people we've become
