Doomed

Doomed

A Poem by Devashish Kumar

It was the kind of night
in the middle of which
no one wants to wake up.

Clouds had invaded
the sky. The stars had
given up a long time back.

Brave Moon did try to hold
the ground for a while, but powerless
she was against their cruel tricks.
She cried for help one last time
as she was forced into oblivion.

A hysteria struck those demons
as they went haywire.
And when they locked horns,
a thunderstorm was inevitable.

Wind ran and shook up everybody
in his path- a desperate
attempt to wake everybody
up before the final Armageddon.

Lightning was dazzling
and thunder roared louder
than mountains, mocking
the poor holding their thatched roofs.

A heavy rain quickly followed
dashing their hopes and prayers.
