love

love

A Poem by AutumnBelle

When I say “I love you”,

Darling,

Its not so superficial as the word

Sounds in a world that has lost grasp of truth,

Not simply an affectionate feeling I hold for you.

When I whisper love into your ear,

The tender and soft wisp of a word,

And gaze into your eyes,

A steady wish burns in my heart

A constant longing

For your ultimate good, your safekeeping

Your happiness.

Not a selfish love

That makes me feel giddy and wanted.

It’s a steady love.

For you.

Yet strangely it makes me feel

Gloriously alive.

I completely understand, true love is altruistic, but it is sometimes still difficult to separate ourselves completely from feeling good about loving or doing something for others simply because they deserve it. Nice write Autumn.
