The Game

The Game

A Poem by Nikole

The game’s started,

The pieces in place.

Like armies parted,

This is a game of grace.

One side black,

The other is white,

You move a pawn to attack,

I move my knight.

This game takes wits,

Think careful my prey.

One by one, we take our hits,

You king shall I slay.

You take my rook,

I take your queen,

Hurry and look,

My pawn takes yours unseen.

My king is guarded,

Yours is exposed,

Your bishop is discarded,

This game is music we compose.

This checkered board,

Now our world,

What new risk can you afford?

What plan will you unfurl?

We play in silence,

Our minds thinking at max.

Our pieces and their obedience

Watch it now, you cant relax!

Finally I have you,

Check my dear,

Your king in view,

I’m now the one you Revere.

I have a plan,

A simple ploy,

So it began,

Its your army I destroy!

Check Mate,

I’ve finally won,

You took the bait,

Our game is done.
