A Letter

A Letter

A Poem by Sam Markay
"

I left a wonderful place, recently, but it's not all bad.

"
Dear love,
I must be truthful:
you have seldom fallen from my thoughts.

As the water dripped,
as the clocks ticked,
as the words flowed choking from my hands,
shivers of everything perfect
shot through me, through here;
whether the guillotines, the wicked dreams,
the tired eyes, the splitting seams.

I found perfection without you, somehow
but still you persisted in me.
I could never forget without remembering,
so your heartbeat danced across my page,
the most silken ink
as I liften the pen and formed the words
"softly, I love you".

Not just to the night, or the fire,
or to slips of memories before me,
or to whispers of demons,
but to you, and to all those who have
touched me, held me
with their words, their arms, their hearts.

Love, take me from here now,
or you may never know me again.
The time is slipping, slipping;
I could be lost in the creases of this book
so, love, come quickly.

Gone, but not forgotten. A beautiful and thoughtful piece of reminiscence, wonderfully reminisced. Thank you so much for sharing this. I really enjoyed it.
