The burial mounds

Were crying out

Where have you been?

The world ended a long time ago

I said

I couldn’t let go

Of this wonderful privilege called life

So I hid

When the apocalypse commenced

Now I’m the soul survivor

Who can be present

To live in peace

The burial mounds replied

You imbecile

Dying is why you have to live

You missed your chance to experience

A greater privilege

I asked

What could that possibly be?

The burial mounds replied

Worry free eternity

Without a body

Everyone will have the same shinning spiritual bright light

No more malice and no more strife against flesh

The burial mounds attested

Who in the world disillusioned your thought process?

I said

My own self

Because I was scared of experiencing death

I've never understood why people are afraid of death. It's not as if I welcome it, but it is a natural process and one certainty we all must face. As mothers, we want our children grown and on their own before we move on from this earth, but it is a reality nonetheless.
