Just Hatched Baby Snails

Just Hatched Baby Snails

A Poem by Fenne Thomas
"

There were literally 100 baby snails on that one garbage can lid. Maybe a bunch of mother snails got together to give birth, sort of like in the spirit of a support group! I can't even imagine how one

"
I saw them all on a
garbage can lid,
left overnight
in the front flowerbed
teeming with
women's art pin-esque
lily-of-the-valley.

100 just-hatched miniatures,
each smaller than
a matchstick head,
shells perfect, intact,
antenna tip balls
the size of a speck
of white pepper.

Who is this genius,
this artist insane with love,
thinking this up?

My mouth dropped, like
a gaping nestling's in April.

I go to church in my garden.
