The Fall of Conformity

The Fall of Conformity

A Poem by Becca
"

It seems safest to blend into this world we have today. All too often we try to stay hidden, but imagine what could happen if we tried to stand out.

"

My eyes fall upon a world of monotony.

A forest, where every tree bears the same hue of green,

Where they hide behind their brothers in fear.

Surely this is a forest of conformity.

But among it is a token of hope in a world of defeat,

A scarlet beacon

A berry, small enough she should go unnoticed,

Yet she blinds the eye with pride.

Every leaf of every branch for miles around

Turns to look upon the shining berry.

You see, She bears more than nutrition

she bears the bravery to stand out,

To show the world what it means to be her.

In a world green with envy,

A color so dull and evil,

How could they be so misguided?

Being in a world where it is safest to disappear,

Why has she chosen to stand out?

Envy turned to embarrassment

And embarrassment to anger,

And soon their eyes gleamed with this new idea.

Their true self was locked away so long ago.

It was a relief to feel the sun shine on who they really were.

The berry gleamed with pride,

As the world of green transformed.

Beautiful shades of amber and plum and crimson,

Emerged from the soul of the forest

Each leaf unlike his brother

My eyes sparkled

This is how the world was always meant to be.

Author's Note

Becca
This was yet another assignment for the same class. This time we had to find inspiration in nature. I found a single berry among a foreset of green. Fall was practically here, and it seemed as if the whole forest was jealous of the berry for standing out and wanted try it for themselves.
