The Gift

The Gift

Along a path,
lies a dark trail leading somewhere
unknown to anyone. 
No one has return from this trail,
for it takes a lifetime
to complete a journey.
The wonders that lurk,
even the sadness is unknown
until the journey has started. 

What fills the mind
is something so magical
you just gaze in awe,
dazzled at the beauty
that floods your eyes
like the Cresting River along the way,
apt to wash the sorrow and pain
that clings to your soles
while bringing freshness
to the air you breath.

Suddenly you stop on the trail,
your virgin eyes get a glimpse
of a snowcap  peak
glistening in the morning light
as the trees sway in the gentle breeze
helping to cool the baked soil
where the roses blossom
and lilies bloom across the field. 

In the far distance
waves of water wash to the shore,
replacing what was old with the new
giving hope to tomorrow,
lifting the oppressive and doom.

Yes this is the gift you have waited for,
a blessing to see,
touch,
smell,
hear, and taste
as you embrace the moment. 
When you turn,
you see someone smiling at you…
who is it?
it is I,
your friend,
I am here to remind you,
life is the true gift
that we all share…
