Fall

Fall

A Poem by Poe Redd
"

(your birth)

"
We feel the stars go cold
   cold for you
and in their descending
you came to life
curling your fingers and
giggling at the fall of a crow
frost in you eyes
and in your breath
your first cry demanded
many die to make room
   room for you.

You were beautiful
and the world put on masks
to hide their decay
trees shed to adorn your daybreak hair
trees bled to feed you
empty corpse heads in the field grin
   grin for you
with heavenly light
glad for your life
your nights are sweet festival
your constellations all expectation
an extra layer of glitter on the silver lining
in the horizon.

Legs a bit shaky
your first step
happens upon
thin ice
that throws you,
killing you, too.

Author's Note

Poe Redd
Kind of a 'born in the autumn' thing, and sort of an 'all my dreams die' thing.
