It takes a strange courage, to love without reward

It takes a strange courage, to love without reward

A Poem by Balkaran Sidhu

It takes a strange courage, to love without reward
To live in a darkness that echoes light
To swallow the sunlight
That reflects neither the face of the Beloved
Or the attachment.

It takes some courage to shine like fire
Mirroring purity, pursuing soul
Demonic and heavenly, full of glory!

It takes the suffering of no escape
to turn back to self with metaphors of superiority
And dissolve, like how water in the fields sinks
Like how pain in the hearts, glitter

Like how streams in the moon haunt
It takes a unique surrender
To let go of the havens we once tended

It takes a big heart to pray for all we ever loved
Until we too must depart
Its the reality of the universe
Frail as the rain of September,
harsh as the heat of May.

I bet you remember those moments
that changed our lives
That in someways,
sent my life into some quicksand of fate.

the poem moved from being philosophical to personal, though whatever is written is felt and that is true.....
lovely lines..

best wishes

I love the phrase "quicksand of fate". Overall, the poem reflects one thing that people tend to overlook. I suddenly remember this statement by someone popular: Love begins when manipulation stops. Thanks for sharing this. :)

There is richly thought-out philosophy elicited here. it's encouraging to know that courage in a labyrinth of incidents must pervade for us to survive... though i think unrequited efforts feels very morbid. The concept of having loneliness, grief, weak vanity, detachment, achieving self-significance, denial against acceptance, while finding courage makes this a very fine verse. It is purely literary. Your hold of vocabulary is strong and so is your way of expressing courage. The similes you have used, i dare say, are subtle. i may sound all too optimistic, but, actually, I have sincerely enjoyed reading this and reviewing it. =)
