Eyes

Eyes

A Poem by Beatrice Mars

(Look in my eyes,

What do you see?)

Sore, red,

Dry, peeling

Skin.

Sting.

The beat of a

Pulse

In an eyelid.

You

In the reflection,

You.

Tears,

Wet and
Dripping.

Rub,

The back of my
hand.

Black , ringed

Make-up,

Spread over

My cheek bones -

Some sort of

Hollow metaphor.

You,

Always you.

Fingers rub,

Blood shot,

Stinging,

Tired

Defeat,

Grey bags,

Hooded lids,

You,

Resignation,

You in my soul,
Deep down,

It's always you

In my eyes.
