I Remember

I Remember

A Poem by Kinley Lowe
"

My friend and I wrote this poem together; we were comparing when we were kids to who we are now. Enjoy :)

"
i remember
a time
when the worst thing
we could do
was stay up past our bedtime
and we'd talk
about the boy in the green sweater
and how he's just so cute

now
we talk
about regret
about the things
we shouldn't have done
and sometimes
as i pull my sleeve down
i'm scared to tell you

i remember
we used to say "oh my God"
and then cover out mouths
because our mothers
would punish us
if we used the lords name in vain
and we looked down
in shame
in the hallway
but when we were together
we would laugh and tell stories

now
we sit around
and throw around
every word
in the book
and we know
our parents
would kill us
but we don't care
in public, we're happy and funny
but together, we wallow in our own depression

when we were kids
everything
was simple
easy-going
now
i can't go one day
without thinking,
"wouldn't it be so much better
if the first time
i tried,
it worked;
that i died?"

we aren't children anymore
but i remember
when we used to be
