The Ride

The Ride

A Poem by A. Kim Spradling
"

Want to come ride with me?

"

Into the night from

Under the eaves.

Winds are blowing

The soft summer leaves.

Listen to the creek,

Bubble and glide.

My horse is ready

For a long midnight ride.

Come and gallop,

Away with me.

Grasses moving

Like a wavy sea.

Saddle up and

Take a chance.

The moon so full,

An age old dance.

This open space,

No room for cars.

Quietly moving

Beneath the stars.

Minutes now hours.

They slowly go by,

As we both move along

Under our endless sky.

Beautiful imagery!

I like you word choice of “soft” in “the soft summer leaves”.

I also absolutely love the imagery of “listen to the creek/ bubble and glide”

I can picture the grass waving in stanza 3. I think you picked the perfect simili.

“An age old dance” in the fourth stanza is an absolutely beautiful line.

I like how you mention the absence of cars in stanza five. It goes further to taking the reader away into your picture.

The last stanza is my favorite. I absolutely love it. I find the period after “minutes now hours” interesting and wonder perhaps it’s emphasizing the point.

I much enjoyed reading this!

Of course!
I love it! I have ridden horses all my life and love them, but I have never had a midnight ride, so you have done something I never have. Thank you for creating this wonderful image so that I can enjoy it vicariously!
