Here's to you,

Here's to you,

A Poem by Ben Veen
"

A poem,

"

Here's to you,

Here's to the many late encounter,

of mindless thought and weary eyes,

and maybe when we wake up we’ll wonder,

If what we said was true or riddled in lies.

Here's to the undeserving pain,

the hours spent with little sentiment,

In a way, kind of hoping for the rain,

doing all I can to belittle my mistreatment.

Here's to being forgetful,

like the time you forgot our special day,

and you made it out as though you felt dreadful,

so I declared it okay, even over my own dismay.

Here's to strawberry wine,

the only taste that could mask your lips,

And for a second, make me feel just fine,

Though the after taste burned, never truly forgetting our once bliss.

Here’s to that one night,

the one where you said you loved me first,

and we sat amid the flickering light,

wondering, how long did that take you to rehearse,

Here’s to the day you tired of me,

leaving as though I had held you down

you had left me in a black sea,

and refused to watch me drown,

And here’s to my death,

yet,I must pardon you, my once dove,

for it wasn’t you that I begged my final breath,

but my new one, for whom I truly love.

This is beautiful, its so personal and points out the simple things that mean so much. The use of imagery and description is perfect, it actually makes me feel something, really beautiful. Great job!
