A Proud Thief

A Proud Thief

A Poem by Deepika
"

A light-hearted piece on the burglar's justification towards his profession. Hope you enjoy :)

"

Don't averse or berate my profession,

In minutes I can have all your possession!

I'm no less than any of the detectives you adore,

I have not just the member count on your floor,

But also the enumeration of your house doors!

Don't mock at me for having no official promotions,

I have set my own records at several police stations!

I'm no less than any fighters who pledge their life,

They fight for many while I fight for myself!

True that I can't boast about my job to any,

Boasting about yours to me is not just funny!

Don't dare you call me ruthless now or ever,

Begged for a decent job and you could do no favor!

Don't scream at me saying I do no Hard work,

You sob when it's your night-shift gazing at the clock!

I don't look for any recall or for any reward,

Let me work behind the screens on my own accord!

Thanks Emily! :)
Brilliant p.o.v, in each line the thief seems like demanding others not to think him as a bad guy. It reminds me of Robin hood.

Thank you Jeyanthi :D
Beginning was nice. Was enjoying. Then it started becoming serious. Reality of y being a thief... And then i read "u sob gazing at the clock when its ur nyt shift" and i actually have just returned from my nyt shift.. It punched me hard. So tru.

What a unique perspective Deepika, I like it. It has class and wit in spades. It reminds me of a book I read some time ago 'GENTLEMAN THIEF Recollections of a Cat Burglar' - the guy was actually respected for his wiley ways by the police and it might have been something of a prestige thing among the well to do, to be targeted by him - the thought being 'if he didnt steal from you then you were somehow inferior'.
This is like Raffles meets The Pink Panther - a very enjoyable jaunt.
