GOLDEN SILENCE

GOLDEN SILENCE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

our mute thoughts and answers

"

“Silence is golden” a phrase many of us use

yet what does it bespeak?

Stillness, calm, taciturn, restraint

we heed what our inner self is seeking

muse about a myriad of thoughts, ideas, impressions

listen to our spirit, our deep core

silently ask questions

and when we ask

we gain answers

We seek guidance from many sources

sometimes dreams are solutions

even though they are unrealistic

we gaze at the moon for panaceas

wish upon a star and welcome answers

now and then we hear silent screams

we pray implicitly for hope and protection

Silence is not empty

our minds continue to probe into different spaces

examine and speak to us mutely

we still have moods that may hurt us internally

and we continue to search for remedies

“Silence is Golden” as we revert to its ability

to innately reveal who we are, where we are

in this silent universe of ours

I had four children and now I have five grandchildren. I like the noisy house. When grandchildren go home. I don't like the quiet. I liked your thoughts on the Golden silence. In my old age. I miss my grandparent house, I miss their voices. A wonderful poem dear Betty. You made the reader ponder and think.

' Silence is not empty ' So true.
There are moments in life when silence is wanted and needed, and then on quiet days; noise makes everything so much better. The balance between them can be difficult at times. Your thoughts touch my heart. All my best to you, Betty. Hugs, Brandy

Hi Brandy
Thanks so much for you thoughtful review, really appreciated!

i think that the gold is introspection but is not easily extracted from the daily grind of life. there is much to be heard in the telling roar of silence. much enjoyed, thoughtful read.

I've always seen silence as light, not golden at all. But then again I see silent screams as a cracked mirror, so what do I know.
It's strange to think we "see" silence at all but as silence is for the most part in our heads, where we reside, I completely understand, as saying silence is imagined within us doesn't have that roll of the tongue feel that poets so crave.
In my mind I imagine screeches to be red hot needles and the hubbub of noise that occurs when too many people gather as a rolling sea that I wouldn't want to be on a boat in.
Silence to me is a smiley emoji that makes you wonder if that smile might be herbally induced.
Repetition of a thrumming noise is exactly the same colour as mourning... dark grey, probably made of a material that makes you shriek when you run your fingernails over it.
Thankfully today has started off a kind of lemon cheesecake colour, but it is early and could turn to liquorice any minute! ☺️
