Chapter 7 UNSETTLED

We conclude the conversation and

Christine understands my needs and wants

We bestow each other a hug and part ways

She assures me that she shall start looking for flats

convinces me to stay in London

Not to worry about being alone

I take my belongings and heave my heavy body up the steps to my room

Once there I unwrap my gift and hold it up to the mirror

It appears quite lovely, the color and the shape

I suppose I shall try it on

Well, I presume, nothing looks elegant on a pregnant woman

I twirl around at different angles in front of the mirror

Nay very pleased at what I see

I move to the bed, plant my legs straight away

And enjoy a few minutes of relaxation

Shopping is quite taxing on my body

It appears to me that I have too much on my mind to entirely unwind

T’s not just the baby fluttering

in addition, I must turn my attention to my soldier

I have only seen him once since I have been in London

It unsettles me to see him in his present condition

Yet I must speak to the doctor to find out what his future

Appears to be

From my perspective, I have no idea what course this illness takes

I seek to keep calm, yet we are bonded in love and I must do the honorable thing

I gingerly creep down the stairs

Holding the rails firm

I utilize the guest telephone in the hall

Speak uneasily to the operator

Who renders the number at the hospital

My hands tremble as I dial

the receptionist connects me to his nurse

I inquire about a visit to see his doctor

She informs me 8:00 AM tomorrow

I lay the phone in its cradle

While I ponder the upcoming meeting

Hard life. A baby in her stomach and a sick soldier. Would be a hard place to be. You made the reader feel the questions and the worry. Thank you dear Betty for sharing the amazing poetry.

Thank you John for your lovely review, much appreciated!

The young lady continues her sojourn in London. Her pregnancy is progressing, and she must put that first, but she can't forget about her wounded soldier. She doesn't know what to hope for, so she attempts to communicate with his doctor. Much still seems uncertain for her.

aww! it was a very nice and flowing episode again. I can literally picture every scene in my mind. You have successfully captured the visuality as always. I'm looking forward to the next episode, let's see what the doctor says.

You found it!!! Lovely review, and thank you for supporting me on this venture!

I was wondering about how this tale was going and now I know that the saga continues with being nearer your soldier and doubts about the future still pray on the protagonists mind, just like we all do.
I like the almost quaint ending with you getting an appointment the next morning. Here at least you have to phone in the morning to see if you can get a callback time to see the doctor before he decides if a visit is required. Ah, the happy carefree days of yesteryear! 😃
