I wonder what the cat thinks

I wonder what the cat thinks

A Poem by Betty green
"

First in the series of poems about what the cat thinks

"
What is the cat thinking as he dashed into the garden to look at the fish in the pond
Who tease him with a flick of the tail
Does he look into the goldfish’s eyes and see the window of the soul or food
As he sleeps on me
Paws tucked in
Eyes half closed
Does he think my lovely human
More likely warm furniture
No it’s sad to say
The only conclusion is
He don’t
The cat don’t think
He exists
In a whirl of instinct and impulses
With no rhyme or reason
To the human mind
No navel gazing for cat
Lucky cat!

I could not agree LESS-- although I thought your poem was very nice.
I believe that my cat has many, many thoughts, and he lets me know just exactly what he is thinking!
I am looking at him, and he gives me a slow blink (I love you, in Cat). I return the gesture, and he does it again.
"I love you, too," I say, in Human. "This could go on all day, and I don't have the time."
I put him down, and he thinks that I was rude and abrupt in my deposing him, and he says so, in Cat.
"Sorry," I tell him, in Human, "But I have stuff to do."
He is still miffed that I put him down, so his tail goes all haughty and he strides or leaps away.
He can only ignore me for so long, though, because he becomes hungry.
He comes looking for me; when he finds me, he begins to vocally insist that he is terribly hungry, emphasising his plight with a great show of affection.
He says plenty.
