Role Playing With Fire

Role Playing With Fire

A Poem by Bill MacEachern

Role Playing With Fire

Fact and fiction
Role play with fire
Black is now white
Truth now a liar

Shall I be silent
Blindfold my tears
Bury my head
Dismiss all my fears

Shall I do nothing
Sit on my fists
Ignore all the hatred
That surely exists

Shall I be deaf
Cotton my ears
Block out the drumbeat
Of doom in the air

If I see something
Shall I say something
Or just walk on by
Ignore what’s occurring

Shall I self censor
Let truth expire
While Fact & fiction
Role play with fire

I have never been one to remain silent. I have always been one to stand up for what's right even at great cost to myself. In these times, however, it is to such a degree that one grows apathetic. You feel as if you have no control in the matter, and all you can do is stand back and watch. The sad part is that the good people suffer along with the bad, the ignorant, and intentionally misled.

I agree Linda Marie! I see you have sympathy for the misled as well, those poor folks believe it all.. read more
when I was 14 yrs old back in 1980 I read a book from the great Jewish American writer Elie Wiesel. The name of his haunting masterpiece was called Night. In the story it speaks to his survival of a nazis death camp. The profound and powerful message, which are many to name but at its heart, is to never remain silent in the face of hatred. For to do so is to be culpable to its wicked acts. To give such evil license in the silence. As human beings it should never be much of a choice to make when confronting hate on any level and defending those incapable of fighting against such hatreds alone. When we have lost our ability to empathize in the humanity of others we have lost ourselves and our own humanity in the process. Never stay silent in the face of hate. CLE
