Rosario + Vampire

Rosario + Vampire

A Poem by Laura Lynn

----------------------------------------------------

Marriages and babies: congratulatory
phrases, fail me not.  What will compel
us to excel?  What will not? Assemble
the great Kahuna together.  Nearby
the television beckons, the texture
of acrylic yarn.  I overreact
to inspiration. In the nondescript
sameness, the needles of acupuncture

are quite renegade but important.  Report
report, commander! I would listen entranced,
I would listen to you and your advanced.
Until cows come home for Southern Comfort,
until roses become daisies, consecutive
hourglasses are kept on a shelf, atone
they do for a quiet nun.  Pentathlon,
the racer in a deep sleep, plaintive

and restless, his doves amalgamate,
or join forces to ward off terminal
degrees, for our hours are occasional,
our bodies our servants.  They infiltrate
dear wave lengths.  Obstetrics
studies the mother and babe altogether,
while we women wait with men, a culture
each to each, varied by regional crucifix.

Aggression obliterates aggression
and there was no caress rehearsal.
There was only one brief elemental
chance or it is a death dance with tradition.
Over here I hang up this holly sprig,
and thank my lucky stars I’m not an angler.
Fleeing was possible though they hired a roofer,
Humpty dumpty, didn’t you know? ...was an egg,

accanto-next to, near, nearby, next door,
accantonare-put aside
accappatoio-bathrobe, beachrobe
accarezzre-caress, cherish, stroke
