This year, Rain for Christmas and the reindeer

This year, Rain for Christmas and the reindeer

A Poem by Laura Lynn

A little reindeer is kidnapped.
Christmas will be full of rain.
Christmas will be fat, happy,
all about wrapping presents,
tying up packages with string.

Too many gifts was always
obnoxious, but abundant, a
nuisance of undesired familiarity.
A little joke is in the names,
good gracious why must we be

grasped by a temporary name.
It is surely a temporal world.
Or only one with a second sun.
A holly tree, a lot of ivy, this
Christmas is full of evergreens.

Comely blushing carolers,
and chestnuts roasting maybe not in fireplaces…
vixen characters, walking
around in storybooks
look cunning and foxy

Excellent look at the way Christmas has little true meaning as it has become less about humanity and more the profanity of excess. Love the final stanza, sublime in the images and messages it provokes!

I sense an invitation to look at Christmas with different eyes in this writing. Just for a reminder Christ - Mas is the revelation of the "event" of the Christ. So many years have passed that the celebration has moved on a little bit. So "full of rain , fat and happy" come in as a wake up call. Again just to centre the theme again, it was hoped that the message of the tranformation of egotistical love into selfless love would be understood through the life of the Christ. So we have decided to bury that boring story in wrapping and present the writing says swimming in the teporarity of Life.

The challenge then still remains but unlike the maggi tha indeed had something to offer to the revelation and mystery that the Christ still is:

We only have stories wrtten by writers and comfortable lives to hide in while the one who suffers revels in more suffering.

What a cunning plan indeed.

Thank You!
