Me And My Sweetheart Are Tying The Knot

Me And My Sweetheart Are Tying The Knot

A Poem by BlackPrince
"

celebrate love

"

Friends, book the hall, order the dress

and suit, buy sweet fruits and flowers,

make a phone call, inform our guests:

the after-party's on for hours,

with Slow Jam and non-stop Hip Hop.

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

Spread the word to town and village,

that love is being celebrated

in sacred rituals of marriage

where two souls are initiated,

their names inscribed on precious rock.

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

Soul-love is the same everywhere:

in the heart of prince or peasant,

we all want tender love and care

that is true, mutual and pleasant,

in the castle or ghetto block.

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

Let there be a long procession

spilling on the street and pavement

the champagne of the reception,

murmuring joy and amazement,

eating chicken wings and the lot!

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

Yes, we'll jump the proverbial broom.

Bride and groom will live out their dreams!

We will think of the honeymoon

so soon, we'll rush to wear our rings,

to consummate the cream of the crop!

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

I was made for her, she for me

before the world even began;

that's how love feels for souls who'll be

sharing roof and bed, living as one.

It's the kind of love hate can't stop.

Me and my sweetheart are tying the knot!

I like how there is a consistent celebratory tone through the poem. And the way you write reminds me so much of old famous poets I really love the way it sounds when I read it. I also like how you revert to the same last line on each stanza and rhyme. Very well written.

The thing I love most about this piece is the jovial tone. It was beautifully written and descriptive enough for me to envision the event as if I were in attendance. Lovely work!

What a glorious way to celebrate love. Your poem sounds more like a love song and fills heart with such a joy. Beautifully crafted, wonderful reading!

This is a poem for the ages! Some of the lines indeed are not particularly universal, and the last stanza is the only one that needs a bit of musicality tweaking (some words fall on the wrong sylLAble, and other lines need a bit more for the musicality to flow over), but this is Fan-Tas-Tic! It's filled with utter joy and power - the power of love - and this is truly amazing! Well freaking done! I must enjoyed this!
