My Heroes, My Saviors

My Heroes, My Saviors

A Poem by Erika Jones

My Heroes, My Saviors

They're my heroes, my saviors

because they're the ones who saved me

from myself. From the darkness

that started to surround me

and my weakened heart

that almost looked it couldn't be saved.

They're my heroes, my saviors

because they showed me that

I am not alone in the world

like I once thought to believe when I

felt that everyone abandoned me

and left me to suffer in my pain.

They're my heroes, my saviors

because they taught me to be myself

and to let no one walk on me

because I am my own person. That

I make my own rules to follow

and that no one can take my dreams away.

They're my heroes, my saviors

because without them, I would be nothing.

I wouldn't be standing here

today doing what I love to do

with all of my heart and soul poured

into it. This is why I say that

they're my heroes, my saviors.
