The Lady In Red

The Lady In Red

A Poem by Megan

She swept through the room

In the darkest hour of the night

There she stood

All red and glittering gold

Her breath smelled of cherries

Her eyes were soft spoken

Painted with the sunsets I've only seen on the west coast

Innocent, yet sharp

She came in the darkest hour

To take me away

She sat on the foot of my bed

And layed a gentle hand on my knee

Her words were soft

And rolled off her tongue

She said "Dear, I need you to come with me."

I asked her where

She said "Do you know the feeling of falling into a slumber, where the music fades and aroma fills your head? That's where I'm taking you."

I followed her out my windows

And wherever she took me

I had a birds eye view from Manhattan to London

I was covered in white, wore the most beautiful pearls

And a natural glow beamed from my body

Just like the lady in red

I was cold, and millions of people were looking up at me

She tucked them in

And told me to look after them as they sleep

I glance up

And miles and miles away

I can see the lady in red fast asleep on Saturn's rings

She was absolutely captivating as she put the day to rest

And was photographed by millions

She trusts me with looking after these souls

Keeping the young and rebellious safe

Turning away for the ones making love

And watching over those fast asleep

In the darkest hour of the night

I, the lady in white

Will sweep through the room

And take you away

To the feeling of being awakened

Where the daze leaves your body

The silence fades

And I too, will fade

I'll take you away

To the gift of dawn breaking.

We all want to die like that fairy image dream or angel like dream.

Unfortunately death can be agony and miserable and last for a long time.

Many die alone in a cold garret room devoid of any comfort or human touch, unwashed without food or water. It happens in England on a large scale, many have been starved to death or die of neglect.

Having said that, I think your writing, even though wishful thinking, is excellent.

I think you could shorten it a bit as it is dragged out a bit.

Take the last stanza, you make it empirical that they have to die in the darkest hour of the night, a cliché by the way:

In the darkest hour of the night

[it could be anytime so why state it will be the darkest hour, all dark hours are the same or do you mean in the dead of night]

I, the lady in white
Will sweep through the room
And take you away
To the feeling of being awakened
Where the daze leaves your body
The silence fades
And I too, will fade
I'll take you away
To the gift of dawn breaking.
