What happened to us

What happened to us

A Poem by Kat Williams
"

something...back and forth..between two..friends..I'm in brown, she's in black

"

What happened to us…?

I could say you happened

But then that would be only

Half the story

I could say I happened

But why blame me first

When I know you jumping

Up and down

To do so

I could say it was life

And love

Combination of both

I was living my life

You were living yours

We weren’t living one

Together

Blame it on the rain

Blame it on jobs

Stress

Kids

Maybe

I could say it was love

I love

You

You love

Me

I am in love with

Love

The idea of

But not the reality of

Living

And

Loving

On a daily basis

Debating

Letting go

Letting love in

No that’s not my strong suit

So here we are

Asking questions that we

Both

Know the answer to

What happened to the passion
Of the compassion we shared?
We could write about anything
And anywhere
We wrote about women
We wrote on love
Shower scenes
Writing poetry
Drama and thugs
What happened to the words
That you printed for me?
You were my escape from the bullshit
Reality
I found solace in your words
Now neglected for things
That we have our lifetime to
Experience
Our lives to dream
What happened to the lyrics
To the song to my heart?
And everything I went through
You were always a part
You were my friend
You were my ace
Umbrellas for rain
My sunshine for the darkness
Joy in pain
I look up from my journal
And no ones there
I feel like writing is pointless
When there's no one to share
When there's no one to care
My ink is used
What happened to the passion?
Its been replaced by fools

You keep asking questions already

Answered

But I’ll indulge you

Something I’ve done all along

What happened to the passion…?

Instead of cuddling

We started lounging

You on your side

Me on mine

Great divide

You snore

Sleep wildly

I’m hot

Sheets are sticky

With don’t want no more

Crusty remnants of what we

Used to do

How we use to love

Rising to the surface

Every now and then

Words, phrases, emails, texts..

Simple days

With an emoticon following

Friendship no longer maintained

Well fed by you

By us

Has turned into

Bread lines forming

Flashing back to days before

When I accepted any meal

As my due

You taught me to weed the chafe from wheat

To accept nothing but natural

No filler

But here I am again

Dipping on the sidelines

With stale chips and soda

Getting fed by metaphoric dribble

That doesn’t inspire

Wetness

Dripping

From

My

Pen

bey
damn! truth hurts.

i found myself racing to the end, wanting to know the out come. two stanzas got me:

"Friendship no longer maintained

Well fed by you

By us

Has turned into

Bread lines forming" and...

"Wetness

Dripping

From

My

Pen"

not sure why, but i loved the ending. maybe for the artistical value. its an excellent write kat.

Though this poem deals with a lot of tough questions and subject matter, it is so well written, its easy to read, lyrical, elegant.

Thanks for sharing!
