I Just Want To Get By

I Just Want To Get By

A Poem by Hunter Mullis

I thought I kicked this.
I thought I cleared my mind, my thoughts.
Yet it’s clear,
The memory still haunts me.

What are you supposed to do,
When no matter what, you still remember?
When your thoughts are hijacked and taken over,
What do you do?
Do you find a hobby and hope they go away?
Do you get drunk and forget?
Do you live with them?
What is the right answer?

I wish I knew which way to go.
I wish I knew how to move on,
Keep going without being stuck.
How to get her out of my head.
It would seem that somethings are sown deep into our past.
So deep that they never leave us.
How can I get by knowing it’s always lingering?

I Just want to get by.
