Mid-Morning

Mid-Morning

A Poem by Jaci

The deep grey of early morning

has succumbed to a lighter grey

as the sun makes its march

across the sky

Funny

I never noticed the broken tree

laying on my neighbors roof

The gutter has broken

there's a rather large dent

in the overhang

A fleeting thought

as to why they haven't removed it.

I must have slept through the winds

the other night

I never heard a thing.

I wish they would return

for the air feels stifling

and even though it's very cold

I feel too warm

without clean air to breathe.

That old voice is calling me again

to the sea

missing the ocean breeze

and watching waves play

chase on the sandy beaches

that fresh salty scent

blowing in from the west

Oh how I miss the sea!

loveliness stirs longing in me

Posted 12 Years Ago

I like how this seems to be completely random at first. If you take a moment to relax and just observe your surroundings, perhaps trying to describe them to yourself, you'll notice so many little things that are seemingly irrelevant, but sometimes they'll set the train of thought in motion. This, to me, seemed to be one of those moments.
I especially liked this part:
"I feel too warm
without clean air to breathe,"
because it, in particular, creates a claustrophobic feeling of being shut in and longing to get out.
I am a fan of fleeting thoughts, and this is well put.
