Hick Town FateA Poem by BlueslifeSome lyrics. What do you think?
As a quarter of a century drew already,
heavy bags under his tired eyes, Couldn’t decide whether laugh or cry in the office’s luminescent light As Mr. Seamless put down his name on, that slice of paper, “I’m free” he quietly sighed And rushed down through the halls to gather, his reassuring handshakes and laughs, Because tomorrow he’ll be off town, To try his luck against his hick town fate, And he’s glad that the 6 pm train, is behind time Giving him ten more minutes to watch the railroad trains “One last deep breath in this good ol’ town boy?”, An old man hands him a cigarette, He is saying that he’s been there, he knows it’s hard to bare, But in the end all of them come home “right, isn’t it?” Just wait and see he thinks to himself, I’ll be back with pride and joy, The train arrives 20 minutes to half, And the old man laughs scornfully on the platform And the time arrived he’s leaving now, To try his luck against his hick town fate, And he’s glad that the 6 pm train, was behind time Giving him ten more minutes to watch the railroad trains Come often we’ll wait for you, drop by any time, my son I’ll write often he said but he knew he won’t whilst rolling down his face a tear of qualm, And now he puts down those old suitcases, Whispers: “finally I’m here”, Time to try my luck against, My damned hick town fate Let me sit down right here at the station, and light me a cigarette, Giving myself just 10 more minutes, to watch the empty railroad tracks. © 2014 Blueslife |
