The World We Live In

This world we live in, uncaring, & merciless

Killed in the streets are people, humans, alike you & me

just for living as who they are

loving as who they are

“excuses excuses”

Excuses that will never make up for the unavenged deaths

Books made millenniums ago do not excuse your actions,

“Having a bad day” does not excuse your actions

Who deals with the repercussions of these MURDERS?

Not the law,

we are silenced by the deafening sounds of your excuses

When we fight for what’s right,

Like the founding fathers, you MURDERERS idolize did,

We suddenly are the evil for just defending ourselves.

PEOPLE, CHILDREN, LIKE ME ARE KILLED FOR WHO WE ARE

When you burn our history, try to erase us, your actions don’t have consequences

Your parents supported you through your life, but we are considered lucky for having supportive

NEWS FLASH: PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTIVE

You aren’t qualified to be a parent if you can’t love your child if they are gay

So, I will leave you with one last thought:

In a world full of choices, why not choose to be kind?

Beautifully spoken and truthfully written. I really enjoyed reading this work of yours. Poetry and spoken word are at their most powerful when the ask the reader to reflect upon themselves in the ills of society. Do we stand silent with indifference and in our inaction give approval to the hate of others? Or do we stand and be brave with the persecuted aligning ourselves with them because it's not only the right choice but compassionate one...and most human. A truthful writer speaks from an empathetic heart to our better nature! A dishonest and disingenuous writer is nothing more then a propagandists to hate and our worst vile instincts. Thank you for your truth and the power of your words. CLE
