This story describes the emergence of the Haestan as a tribe of barbarians to a powerful country

"
Not much was known of the Haestan. They were known to be a tribe of barbarians from the frigid Isles of Hauk who were vicious warriors but other then that little was known. Rumours said they stood around 7 feet and weighed in excess of two hundred pounds of solid skull crushing muscle. Long hair as black as Night went with their scraggled beard which was always caked with the blood of their victims. In legend that is. The size description wasn't far off. They are monsters of men. Muscular, agile, ruthless in battle. Clad in animal skin clothing. Their bodies long ago having adjusted to their frigid homeland. Raised as warriors from the time they could stand. The weak were not tolerated. Everyone had their role in the tribe while everyone, women included were warriors. Wielding weapons the likes of axes, hammers, massive swords and sturdy spears. Bearing only heavy iron layered wooden shields for armor. They were a people on the move. Living in animal fur tents. Traveling from animal herd to animal herd. Unknown and undisturbed by the rest of the world. Led by whoever was strongest among them. Currently they were under the command of a giant of a man. Seven and a half feet tall, golden blonde hair and beard to match. He wore the skin of the wolf he had killed to prove himself to his people and he carried a massive battle-ax nearly as big as he. Brak was his name. Brak Wulfslayer. Brak was a ferocious warrior. Never beaten in combat. Yet he was also the most intelligent of all Haestan chieftain's in the history of the tribe. Unlike other chieftains he believed the Haestan should be more then nomads.  They should build cities and form a kingdom. The trouble was the Haestan didn't have the knowledge required to build cities. They were limited to ship building and tent making. So it came to be that the Haestan began building a fleet that would transport them. No longer would they be pirates. They would be invaders. As soon as the ships were ready. A year long process the Haestan boarded their ships and set sail for the nearby island of Glaedus. Inhabited by the weak knowledge seeking Glaedlings. It would be a good start to the Haestan kingdom none the less. Weak though they were their cities were fairly strong. For months the Haestan sailed. The farther from their frigid homeland they went the more blood thirsty they became. Three months it was that they sailed until they finally reached the outskirts of the Glaedling's capital. Eldwin. "wait until nightfall and we will scale the walls" Brak ordered his men. They anchored their ships in a cove not ten miles from the city. At night the Haestan threw grappling hooks over the walls and scaled them in minutes. Then the fearsome warriors set themselves against the sleeping Glaedling's. They slaughtered the guard and butchered the rest of their army before they could even form units. Citizens ran in fear only to be butchered without mercy. In mere hours the entire city had been slaughtered
