I Once Told You

I Once Told You

A Poem by Brett Hernan

She takes the microphone into her
hand and sings:

'If
I
was
hard
on you
it
was
because
I
was
bein' hard
on me,
too...

Ambition
has
a
blind
spot
where
some
times,
you
lose.

Me?
Baby,
I bled,
I used,
and grew.
Though the graft
that never took
still bleeds true.
(The secret
contracted
condition
is never
again to speak
to you.)

I used it
and grew.
And so
did you.
That's what
shows through.

Once
there
was
a place
where
every
thought

told
to you.

(Perhaps,
all
that matters
is that
once
we shared
some
room?)

As
the final
diamond chip
flies
in front
of an
Autumnal,
jade
and
emerald
Moon.

Which,
tonight
I lay
beneath,
as I recall
the words
once,
I
confided
in
you...

I
bled,
but
still
I
grew.

Wow; I actually heard the music to this as I wrote and I got to say it was beautiful and so very sad I wanted to cry. The structute to be honest is a little hard on the eyes but in a way it really adds to the drama and devestation of the words so I don't think changing it is necessarily a good idea I just thought I'd be honest. Still that last stanza really felt like a Whitney Huston belting out the pain kind of moment and I got to say this would be a fantastic song for a strong female vocalist to perform. Great job!

It's not about me anyway, it's about the lady singing.
Around me, there's blood everywhere.
