The Soldiers in Vietnam

The Soldiers in Vietnam

A Poem by Brianna Ray
"

I watched a documentary talking about the Vietnam War. In it, it said that many of the soldiers had at first never heard of Vietnam when shipped off. Gave me the idea for this poem.

"
Many had not heard of Vietnam,
But now they were going.
Many had not heard of Vietnam,
But now they were going to fight in it.
The young soldiers arrived in Vietnam,
Not even knowing what they were there for.
The young soldiers arrived in Vietnam,
Already longing for home.
The young soldiers fought in Vietnam,
Watching as their friends were killed.
The young soldier fought in Vietnam,
And watching as their bullets killed.
After the war,
The soldiers went home to their loved ones.
After the war,
The soldiers wondered if what they had done was worth it.
Long after the war,
Students study it.
Long after the war,
We respect the soldiers.
Long after the war,
We say thank you.

This poem has touched my heart. On reading it, I can feel a part of the soldiers' pain and above all, the nonsense of the war. Thank you for having written this poem, Huntoon.
