Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Bridget McJane

bruises cannot be found

pain and breakage are not visible

but my mind has been beaten

and my heart has been worn

too many strings

stabbed into my body

trying to cut them

but i cannot keep up

the daggers are digging deeper

red

reaching out, to be stepped on

pushing me down

drowning

I feel this piece speaks to mental abuse suffered at the hands of others. Or it could reflect anxiety or depression. Either way it is a very powerful and emotional piece that readers can relate to.
