The Men Who Taught Me

The Men Who Taught Me

A Poem by Britny_ Grady
"

A poem about men and the lessons they leave in their wake.

"

Dad
You were my hero, my shining knight,
I was your princess all happy and bright.
Idolized, to me you could do no wrong,
To me you were supreme, so strong.
Then you cheated and walked away,
As I watched you I knew you wouldn’t stay.
You walked, you left us in the dust,
Thanks, you taught me to distrust

Grandpa
You were so good, so proud,
Always soft never loud.
Growing up you were always collected, cool,
Unlike the rest you were never a fool.
Then you were gone one day,
Leaving so much left to say.
Death took you from life, from our family,
But your last words I remember - always be me.

Ex #1…
You met me you were so rude,
Sometimes even a bit crude.
But you listened and learned,
I was a hard girl to get returned.
Since the moment we met you said you’d wait,
I guess that’s just one thing guys always state.
Good thing I was a tough nut to crack,
Otherwise it would have hurt when I caught you in the sack.
Guess I was just another game,
and all you men are the same.

Ex#2...
When you looked you saw only the good in me,
Believing that the fates had destined us to be.
I was an angel, flawless and perfect,
You believed there was nothing to correct.
But you wanted to see what wasn't there,
Who I am, and who you saw didn't compare.
This image of me drove you away,
Once again, men never stay

Uncle…
I thought you were different, good,
Guess, once again, I misunderstood.
Just like the rest, you walk away when things get rough,
You can’t stand by when things get a bit tough.
After thirty-years of marriage you’re walking away,
Leaving everyone a mess, with nothing to say.
Thank you, thank you so much for reminding me,
Men leave, that’s why you can only trust your Bio-family.

I'm not sure if it's any good... or if the timing is quite right. Well, either way, here it is.

Timing's just a little off, but it is good. Really good. Currently, I'm fighting off the urge to defend me, but even I know I can't speak for all of them (not enough good guys; we're going extinct. And yes, believe it or not, there is a such thing as a good guy). This poem did to me what mine appeared to do to you; threw me off (my words). It started out nice, the flipped, then went nice again, then flipped again, and now my head is spinning. Needless to say, well done.

Some truth to it for sure. Thanks for sharing.
