Longing

Longing

A Poem by Brittany

You are a current running through the ocean of my mind.

Undermining my better judgement, imagination running wild.

A cancer to my senses, infecting my being,

Creeping into the places of my soul where you shouldn’t be.

An irrational pipe dream, too far to hold…

I can touch you with my words, but my hands remain cold.

How long can we play at this, doing this dance?

Wracking my mind for an answer, will it ever have a chance?

Years of fire building, growing the flames,

Skirting this reality, playing games.

A plague upon my peace of mind, you never let me be.

I’m swimming in circles, drowning in maybe.

You’ve shown me your mind, like a brilliant glow,

But I want to see your body, I want to see your soul.

Sands of the hour glass go here to there
More places to visit than this lonely soul
One step, with no one to share, I mis-stepped one of many errors

You, a dream I think I held dear, not even a dream dost I dare
I lose self in thought, I wonder was it to ponder of remembering you
This I know, there was never "we"; I wish I could say I see what I never saw

Sitting atop a hill, with you in my arms, with the ocean below and the sun setting on the horizon
Such is the dream I think I dreamt of us
No, that was just a picture on a card, I saw in a store, when losing thought of that which is not -- US

Attempt to gather and collect, like too many times, my scattered and scrambled thoughts
Time to paint the outter appearance of "all is well"
My smile covers the emptiness

I turn corners daily with no direction, face constant struggle
You, well who knows if you even exist,
A never ending solo adventure with no direction because there is no US.
