Mirror Mirror (reddit suggestion)

The only reason humans can't travel through mirrors is because our reflections are protecting us. One day your reflection stepped aside.

Every morning he looked in the mirror.  First thing, before he decided if he needed a shower or if he had any milk left for breakfast he looked in the mirror.  Not for a long time, he wasn’t an incredibly vain man.  Just long enough to notice the same things every time; what did his wrinkles look like, was there any new spots, did he need to shave.  It made him feel human, not special or good looking �" but reminded him that he was the accumulation of millions of little moments.  The late nights, the cigarettes, the beers, being sat at a desk for 9 hours a day.  And the good stuff, the days spent in love, or by the beach.

 

Every single morning.

 

Until one day he wasn’t.  One day he was looking dead ahead at the mirror, the one in his bathroom just above the sink, except there was nothing looking back at him.  He was not a crazy man so he thought, definitely not the kind of man who would go completely insane and start hallucinating (that sort of thing just didn’t happen in the South of England!  Maybe in Wales at a push…).  But sure enough no amount of blinking or tapping the mirror changed the fact that there was no-one staring back at him.  And he had the strangest sensation, like something hooked under his navel pulling him into the mirror like a strong current.  Of course he was scared, it was as if the most beautiful stranger had suddenly beckoned him over in the street, and he was scared because it felt like the universe had picked the wrong person.  So he stood there for a while, strong enough to resist the pull of the mirror but not strong enough to walk away.  And eventually it got too much, not because he was an incredibly brave man but simply because there wasn’t enough to keep him in this world.  And so he jumped
