Ghost of You

Ghost of You

A Poem by Winnter
"

Written in late 2018

"

Haunt my bones with the shape of your hands,
Speak to me until I can see your words in bright flames flashing in my memories.

Look at me with those hazel eyes with every single emotion you've ever felt.
Kiss me like the world is crumbling around our feet.
Hold your hands in mine and cry to me,
Release your sorrows into my heart and drown me with your demons,
Let me free you from your burdens.

It's the least I can do for such a kind and patient soul.
For I am the reaper.
I taketh upon troubles so others may feel the love they need and desire.

For my heart has longed to feel love but my mind runs circles telling me it's better this way.
Telling me "who will help you? You were meant to carry the problems of others. For you are the reaper."

The reaper will pay all of us a visit one day but I can assure you I will slam the door in his face if he comes a calling. Death to me is oblivion, nothingness. I am in no hurry. Thank you for allowing me to add my thoughts. A good read, well expressed.

The speaker in this poem seems to be death. Indeed, the reaper does free us from our burdens. Still, there is a hesitation to put him on the guest list just yet.
