We Shall Be Free

We Shall Be Free

A Poem by Brooklyn1173
"

A call for peace and acceptance for all humans regardless of our differences.

"

As close as we come

To acceptance and peace

We drift just as far

Fighting old battles that have yet to cease

Why must we see only color or race,

Religion, sexuality, the look of one’s face

Why must these matters?

Why must we care?

Wars over differences

Cause only despair.

Are we not all the same, when these are stripped away?

Can we not learn to see one another in the same way?

As people, just people, no more and now less

Not Christian, nor Muslim

Not black and not white

Put down your prejudices

And give up this fight

Then we shall be free

The ending is not as strong as I wanted so let me know what you think and any help with the ending to make it stronger would be much appreciated

It's a strong piece with great voice. Maybe the ending came on a little suddenly. The only advice about it I could give is maybe to expand a little before you get to the final line. I find it's not usually the ending but what is leading up to it. You did a great job.

How about "Stammer! Yell! Hollar! and give up this fight. Freedom's victory shall make the world ring.
