Darling.

Darling.

A Poem by Kat Loch

Darling,

You’ll have to endure painful knee cuts,

dead animals,

too dark of nights,

howling winds and bright lightning.

And, I know you’ll still be brave.

You’ll go through many heartbreaks, small and large,

and you’ll cry in the middle of the night, sobbing, “Why?”

You will break down in the middle of class, but that’s okay. You’re in the back.

You’ll go through nights where all you want to do is slash your wrists

and down a bottle of pills.

You’ll meet frightening people.

And you’ll meet lovely people.

And you’ll meet broken people. That’s why you must always be nice.

Things will break and won’t be the same ever again.

But, I know you’ll still be brave.

People will come and go.

Seasons will change.

Even your dog will have a problem with you one day.

That’s when you push through, stay courageous, and know I still love you;

Storms, long nights, scars, uncertainty, and all.
